HISTORY OF OUR NURSERY

The Nursery was established in 1976 by Merrill and Larry Stanley. Presently Larry and Marlene Stanley own and run the Nursery. The nursery is currently in production on 10 acres. The emphasis of the nursery is the rare and unusual. We grow 400 varieties of Japanese Maples and over 2000 varieties of Conifers. Between the years 1984-87 we also shipped 70 varieties and species of Actinidia (Kiwi) mail-order.

Each year 75,000 plants are grafted and 250,000 plants are stuck as rooted cuttings of around 3000 different cultivars. We also import plants every year from Holland and New Zealand. About 200 new cultivars come to the nursery every year. Plants are shipped everywhere in the USA and Canada to Wholesale and Retail gardens centers by truck, Delta, Southwest and UPS. At the nursery we employ about 10 full-time people.

At the nursery you will be invited to see our collection of plants in plantings around the Nursery. There is one acre of display gardens and a quarter-acre of clone yards. Every year we ship a color catalog to our customers. This catalog contains information on how to order from our many different buying programs.

In my travels and in my business dealings nothing has helped Stanley & Sons Nursery more in the search of rare and unusual plants than the fellowship of the American Conifer Society. Every three months you receive a quarterly bulletin full of interesting articles and pictures of new plants!
